A look at tool cabinets

Use tool cabinets to keep your shop orderly

Many woodworkers use tool cabinets to keep their tools organized. By using cabinets, these woodworkers are able to keep their benches free of tools and equipment, saving this precious work space for their projects. There are a variety of different tool cabinets that can work for your wood shop, depending on how much space you have and what kinds of tools you need to store.

Some different kinds of tool cabinets

One of the most commonly seen types of cabinets is the hand tool cabinet. These cabinets usually rest on top of a bench, or are large wheeled units. Once heavy and unwieldy, modern cabinets are light enough to roll easily, while still tough enough to handle rough treatment.

Manufacturers of hand tools have also recognized the need to keep power tools under control. With corded and cordless power tools, you may have duplicates of several different power tools. Tool cabinets large enough to store these power tools can help you keep track of your tools, as well as help you keep these power tools out of the way. There now many different styles of cabinets out there, including tool cabinets that serve double duty as stands for your larger power tools. Many woodworkers now build their own tool benches for their routers, drill presses, or table saws.

One of the great advantages of having a tool cabinet for these types of tools is that you can store any and all attachments or accessories within easy reach of your tools. You can also make these tool cabinets portable, so that you can move the tools in and out of your working space as they are required.

Build a miter saw cabinet

Your miter saw is one of the most useful tools you own, but it can be a bit unwieldy to work with, especially for long pieces of trim. If you build a miter saw cabinet that is portable, it will be easy for you to position your miter saw in the best spot.

You can also build a miter saw cabinet that has attachable wings to extend your work surface. Once you are finished working with your miter saw, simply store these wings in a corner! With more work space, you will be able to work more efficiently all because of tool cabinets.
