using a pole chain saw

Safely using your pole chain saw

A pole chain saw can be helpful when trying to reach those out of the way places. They are excellent for pruning high branches and tall bushes. This is because the chain saw is mounted upon a long pole. Some of these poles are even telescoping, and allow one to adjust the length of the pole. While more traditional chain saws are bulky and can weigh quite a bit, these saws are often lightweight (some weigh as little as seven pounds!). A pole chain saw can often be converted to act as a traditional saw.

Even though this type of chain saw is quite small, its chain saw blades are every bit as sharp and damaging as the blades found on regular chain saws. It is important to practice chain saw safety when using this type of chain saw. One of the important considerations when using a saw mounted on a pole is steady footing. Make sure you are stable, and on solid ground. This will ensure that you maintain good control over the direction the chain saw blades are cutting.

Other important tips for chain saw safety

In addition to making sure one has good footing, there are other safety considerations that must be followed. As with all chain saws, it is a good idea to wear protective goggles. Whenever one uses a chain saw, the chain saw blades send pieces of wood flying. Covered eyes are safe eyes. Gloves are also necessary items, as they protect the hands from scoring. There are gloves that are made for use with chain saws, specially designed to improve grip. Sturdy, closed toe shoes are also a good idea. Many people prefer steel tipped boots when working with chain saws, for increased protection.

In order to discover whether or not your chain saw is safe, check out some chain saw reviews. Many consumer oriented Web sites feature these types of reviews. Sometimes Consumer Reports even puts out chain saw reviews. These reviews can also provide insight as to the ease of use of any particular chain saw, including the pole chain saw.
