Altendorf
was founded in Berlin, Germany in 1906 when
Wilhelm Altendorf invented the sliding table
saw and edging circular saw. This revolution
in the woodworking industry brought the company
instant world-wide attention. In the 1950s, when
Altendorf’s sons Willy and Kurt decided
to phase out other products and focus solely
on manufacture of the table saws, Altendorf soon
became the leader in the field.
With this product concentration came additional
innovations and creations all aimed at improving
the performance and reliablility of their slide
table saws, earning the company a reputation
as a technology leader. In the 1990s the company
created the first computer assisted sliding table
saw. Altendorf currently offers two choices in
sliding table saws, the F45 and the WA 80.
The first Altendorf subsidiary located outside
of Germany was created in the U.S. in 1984. Today
the company, which has since moved it headquarters
to Minden, Germany has seven subsidiaries in
Europe, Asia, and Australia that produce or distribut
Altendorf machines. Five branches handle distrubution
in Europe and the U.S.
The official U.S. distributor is Altendorf American,
a division of Stiles Machinery, Inc. In addition
to Altendorf table saws, the company sells several
brands of beam saws, widebelt sanders and other
professional woodworking machines.
