Corportation, the makers of Chef’sChoice
sharpening products, was founded by Daniel D.
Friel, Sr. in 1984. Friel had worked for the
DuPont
Company for 40 years, and his experience
with this leader in scientific and consumer applications
provided him with skills as a scientist and engineer.
He had patents on many different inventions and
decided to apply that knowledge to knife
sharpening,
a skill that had long been of interest tohim.
After several years of research and testing,
Friel created the Chef'sChoice Diamond Hone Sharpener,
which was quickly touted by some of the most
respected food experts and chefs worldwide. Encouraged
by early success, Friel expanded the company
product line to include electric
knives and scissors sharpeners, manual
sharpeners, diamond steels,
diamond stones and sharpening rods.
The company later expanded into commercial sharpeners
for use in restaurants, catering companies, cooking
schools and other industry settings. Eventually
products such as professional knife sets, food
slicers, waffle irons and hot beverage appliances
were added to the product line.
Chef'sChoice consumer products can be purchased
in department stores, hardware and sporting goods
stores, cutlery, cookware and specialty stores,
and through mail-order catalogs, online catalogs,
and online retailers. Chef'sChoice commercial
sharpeners are sold by commercial foodservice
dealers.
