CMT was founded in a small workshop in Pesaro,
Italy by Osvaldo Tommassini in 1964. From the
beginning, their focus was on woodworking
tools,
which originally developed out of a demand for
quality woodworking tools in the local furniture
businesses. Today, CMT operates two factories
in the Pesaro area and distributes throughout
the world.
The
company offers over 75
different cmt router bits including ogee,
dovetail, bowl and tray, chamfer, and mortising
bits. According to the company, CMT router
and boring bits start from solid bar stock
steel. A hot drawing process pulls all the
fibers of the steel in one direction resulting
in extra strong and resilient bars. A carbide
composition is used in the tips. After milling
and turning, the bits are given a non-stick,
low friction Teflon coating to enhance product
length and ease of maintenance. This gives the
bits their signature orange coloring.
