Craftsman
is one of the most recognized names in the
tool industry. The line of tools was introduced
through the Sears catalog in 1926, and the brand
has earned a strong reputation for quality and
durability over the years.
The
diverse line of tools includes hand tools such
as hammers, chisels, and clamps; power
tools such as table, radial, and miter
saws, drill
presses, routers, and mechanics tools. The company
also offers accessories for their tools, along
with shop vacs and storage units, which have
become one of Craftsman’s biggest sellers.
The brand also includes lawn and garden products,
electrical equipment, compressors, home security
items and garage door openers.
In testament to the popular appeal of the tool,
famous spokespeople, such as racing legend AJ
Foyt and Bob Vila, the host of the popular TV
show Home Again, tout the benefits of Craftsman
tools around the world.
So popular is the Craftsman name that many people
assume there is a Craftsman company out there
somewhere, but in actuality, Sears contracts
with tool manufacturers to produce the brand
they sell under their name. For nearly a decade,
Danaher, a Washington, DC based manufacturing
company has held the contract to create Craftsman
tools for Sears. Prior to that, the products
were made by Stanley Tools.
