The DeVilbiss Corporation was founded in1888
by Dr. Allen DeVlbiss, a physician in Toledo,
Ohio. DeVilbiss named his venture DeVilbiss Manufacturing
Company, and began producing atomizers for medicinal
applications. The company eventually expanded
into other areas including the automotive industry.
By 1926 the company name changed to The DeVilbiss
Company as their product lines continued to expand
to include air compressors.
In January of 1970 the DeVilbiss Company was
merged with Champion Spark Company. This group
was later purchased by Illinois Tool Works in
1990.
Today,
DeVilbiss offers eight
different air compressors in
compact, vertical, horizontal, oil free,
and carry styles. Specific products range
from a 2 HP 125 PSI maximum pressure, 87
dBA, compact air compressor, to a 2 HP(running),
90 dBA, 25 gallon portable air compressor.
DeVilbiss also offers air tools, generators,
accessories, and combo kits that include
tools and an air compressor.
In
2004 Black
and Decker announced that it has completed
the purchase of the Tools Group from Pentair,
Inc. The tool group includes such major woodworking
related brand names as Porter-Cable, Delta,
Oldham Saw, DeVilbiss Air Power, and Flex.
Price of the entire deal approx. $775 million
in cash according to Black & Decker.
