The company known as DuPont was founded in 1802
by E.I. du Pont. A Frenchman with liberal ideas
about interactions between business and labor,
he and his father fled their country for the
United States after being imprisoned for their
ideas. E.I. had been involved in the explosives
industry for several years and that was the primary
focus of the company he founded on the Brandywine
River in Delaware.
After the first hundred years of operation,
DuPont Company began to broaden their interests,
and chemicals, materials and energy became important
aspects of their research and development. Today
the company is one of the largest in the world
with more than 75 research and development and
customer service operations across the globe.
DuPont
offer a vast expanse of science-based products
in areas such as food and nutrition, health
care, apparel, safety and security, construction,
electronics and transportation. Brands include
the DuPont Oval and DuPont™ (The "DuPont
Brand Trademarks"); Pioneer brand seeds,
Teflon; Kevlar high strength material, Tyvek
protective material, and Corian solid surfaces.
The company has several different lines of flooring
products as well. Real Touch Embossed-In-Register
flooring recreates the textures and finishes
of natural wood while MicroBevel flooring includes
a technology that embosses a subtle micro bevel
between each laminate wood strip providing more
depth and realism to the floor.
Dupont has become known as a leader in innovation,
and their flooring products are prime examples
