The Festo Company was founded in Germany in
1925 by Gottlieb Stoll. Within four years, they
had produced the first portable chainsaw, a creation
that was to set the tone for the company for
the decades to follow as they expanded into other
lines of power tool equipment.
In 1951, Festo offered the first orbital sander,
and in 1964 they added the portable circular
saw with a built in guide rail. In 1976 the company
expanded on original designs and presented the
first random orbital sander, followed by a jigsaw
with triple blade guide for precision cuts in
1984. Also in this year, the company produced
a multi-use tool called the Rotex RO 150 E, which
allowed woodwookers to achieve outstanding surface
results with a single tool, from rough sanding to fine finishing.
Over the years, the company brand of tools became
known as Festool, and grew to include cordless
drills, dust extractors, routers, and more recently,
a stackable, transportable storage system called
Systainer. Innovation such as these continue
today and are showcased by products such as the
Fast-Fix cordless drill with snap-on chucks that
allow for angled and eccentric drilling approaches.
In addition to its headquarters located in Wendlingen,
Germany, Festo has many locations across the
globe, including the United States and Great
Britain and a holding company in Canada.
