Tree cutting made simple

Using tree saws and other tree cutting equipment to keep your yard looking great

Tree cutting is a great skill to learn, especially if you have a yard full of trees, decorative shrubs, or bushes. Trees are a wonderful addition to your landscaping, and can provide advantages that include shade, a place to hang your hammock, and privacy. But having trees can also be a lot of work: leaves and fallen fruit need to be cleaned up each year, shrubs and hedges need to be trimmed, and branches will need to be removed for safety's sake.

Learning to use tree cutting equipment

You can pay a landscaper or tree service to perform these tasks for you, but this can cost you a lot of money over the long term. The best ways to keep costs down, however, is to learn how to take care of your trees yourself using tree cutting equipment. By purchasing your own tree saw or trimmer you may be able to save yourself thousands of dollars over the time you own your home.

Selecting tree saws for your needs

There are several different types of tree saws. The most common is a chainsaw, which can be used both to cut down trees and to trim lower branches. A smaller bucksaw is an easier way to trim branches due to its light weight and compact design – perfect for climbing ladders. If you need to cut higher branches, a pole saw is a great way to extend your reach. These saws on long poles can be used quite easily from the ground using a system of cords and pulleys, although you should not use a pole saw around any power lines – if you must, be sure to wear gloves and be prepared to run away if a falling branch cuts a live wire.

Using tree trimming tools

Pole saws and hedge trimmers are among the most common tree trimming tools. Hedge clippers come in both manual and powered models, each with their own benefits and drawbacks. Your choice should be based on the amount of work you will have to do; if you have just one or two trees that need to be trimmed, a pair of clippers will likely suffice, but trimming a large number of trees will be made easier by an electric trimmer. With the right tools and a little practice, you will soon find yourself skilled at tree cutting.
