The
words "Delta tool" have stood
for quality since 1919, when company founder
Herbert Tautz started designing power tools in
his garage. In just a few short years, Tautz
created the Delta tool reputation for quality
and reliability. His designs also changed the
way many people completed woodworking. The first
Delta tool was also the world's first scroll
saw, and from these humble beginnings scroll
saws have evolved and changed almost immeasurably.
Other
Delta tool offerings in the company’s
early years included an all-in-one tool that
included a lathe, disc sander, and scroll saw,
all packaged with a high quality electric motor.
Innovations like this Delta tool, which was called
the "HandiShop" and certainly lived
up to its name, made Delta tools some of the
most popular of the time. The Delta tool company,
which was then called "The Delta Specialty
Company", was also one of the first companies
to specialize in band saws, becoming an industry
leader even in the 1930s when the world was deep
in the depression.
Names of the Delta tool company
The
name "Delta tool company" is a
bit of a misnomer, as the name of the company
which makes Delta tools has changed over the
years. It remained the Delta Specialty Company
until 1945 when it was purchased by Rockwell
Industries and renamed "The Delta Power
Tool Division of Rockwell Manufacturing Company." The
company was renamed "Delta Machinery" in
the 1980s after being purchased by Pentair.
The
tool line up
Delta Machinery now focuses on two product lines.
The Delta ShopMaster line includes a variety
of different saws and drills for the amateur
woodworker. Delta ShopMaster tools range from
powerful cordless drills to compressors and bench
saws, all of which are built with Delta's unwavering
commitment to quality and reliability. The Delta
Industrial line of tools is designed for the
more advanced woodworker and for industrial applications.
These heavy duty tools are designed to work as
hard as you do so you can maximize your productive
shop time.
The many great tools produced by Delta Machinery
offer options for both hobby woodworkers and
professional carpenters and woodworkers. Throughout
the company's history, Delta tool company has
maintained a healthy balance of innovation and
durability. This is why when they need a job
done right many woodworkers turn to a Delta tool.
