Dowels
are something that every cabinetmaker and carpenter
will be familiar with and will have in their
workshop. Dowels are used to make all sorts
of wooden projects and are convenient to use
no matter how complex the project. Wooden dowels
come in all makes of wood, including pine,
cedar, birch, cherry, walnut, mahogany, and
oak dowels. You’ll want to match your wooden
dowels to the rest of the décor in the
room.
For
example, if you are remodelling in a room that
has primarily pine furniture you will want
to use pine wooden dowels for all your woodworking
features. Hardwood dowels are a more generic
kind of dowel and are great when you plan on
painting them, saving on the expense of buying
a wooden dowel of a particular kind of wood.
Wooden
dowel
Wooden
dowels come in a variety of shapes and
sizes, making it convenient for you to find just
the right dower for whatever project that you
are working on. Wooden dowels can also be custom
cut and designed to order from your local lumberyard
or hardware store.
Hardwood
dowel
Hardwood
dowels are less expensive than wooden dowels
that are made of specific wood such as oak
or cherry. If you plan on just painting or
covering the dowel anyway you’re better
off buying a hardwood dowel since the wood won’t
be seen anyway once your project is complete.
Many times you can buy hardwood dowels very cheaply
at discount sales since retailers often just
want to move them off the shelf if they’ve
been there too long.
Oak dowels
Oak dowels are more expensive than hardwood
dowels or even pine dowels due to the expense
of oak on the market today. Oak dowels are soft
and uniform in colour and will brighten up any
room in your home. Oak dowels are something that
you will want to reserve for your finer woodworking
projects or if you are remodelling a room that
has oak furniture as its main feature
Dowels
are readily available at any hardware or home
decorating centre. Using pre-made dowels is
a great way to complete your wood projects
simply and on time. For your home projects
be sure you have the right dowels.
