Why use rubber flooring

The reasons for rubber flooring

Rubber flooring has great appeal for flooring in homes because of its low maintenance, and its durability. Many commercial buildings and hospitals all over the world use rubber flooring. Rubber flooring is an excellent choice for areas where there are lots of people as you can not slip that easy as on other types of floors.

Installing rubber flooring

The installation of rubber flooring has to be done by someone who knows how to install the rubber flooring. The first step is to prepare the floor that the rubber is to be laid on. Concrete needs to be cleaned and has to be completely free of any debris, such as adhesives, paint or excess dust. If the concrete has been put down recently, you have to wait at least a month before installing rubber flooring because the concrete has to be completely dry. If the flooring is wood, then it has to be cleaned and smoothened. You also have to check for moisture because if the wood is wet, the rubber adhesives will not stick to it. This is why you really need to have someone who knows how to install rubber flooring do it for you or at least help you with it. When you actually get to the installation, you cannot have any heat on because it will take the glue longer to dry.

You can have glue down rubber tiles or interlocking rubber tiles. The glue down tiles have to be placed so that no seams show. The interlocking tiles do not require any adhesive and they are usually marked with arrows to guide the installation process. A sealant is usually applied to the floor once it has been installed.

The rubber flooring tools you need to have are the applicators for the glue and the smoothers for laying down the rubber flooring. You will need cutting and scraping tools as well as rulers and measuring tapes. These rubber flooring tools are needs to cut the flooring to the correct measurements and to fit around corners and doorways. You will also need knee pads for yourself because you will be spending most of the time on your knees when you are putting down rubber flooring.
