Commercial Flooring Information

Commercial flooring has special requirements from residential flooring. In addition to requirements of durability, it must also be attractive and fit the environment in which they are placed. The ability to stand up under stress far above the failure point of residential flooring is one of the chief requirements of commercial flooring.

The demands on commercial flooring are many; consequently there are a variety of commercial flooring, each with its own unique characteristics. Some floors must withstand heavy rolling loads. Others must hold up under the weight of heavy stationary objects. Some commercial flooring must have the ability to recover from indentations, or have a resistance to gouging. Others must hold up under the stresses of high traffic, or resist stains. Yet others must be slip retardant or have the ability to dissipate static in sensitive working environments. The demands are unique to the business using the floor.

There are a number of manufacturers of commercial flooring, each with its own market niche and distribution system. Most commercial flooring is available at places such as home improvement depots and outlets, lumber yards, industrial supply centers and on the Internet through the various e-tailers.

An important consideration of flooring is the products that have gone into making it. Large areas of commercial flooring can have an impact on health. Certain flooring materials can give off gases or fumes. This process, called off-gassing, will begin to affect employees within a few days or weeks after the installation of the floor. These people will begin exhibiting the symptoms normally associated with colds or the flu.

Commercial flooring information is readily available on the Internet. Most of the manufactures and brands like Armstrong, Bellawood or Hartco have informative websites that outline the products they offer and the characteristics of each product. Internet e-tailers offer a variety of commercial floor products and with lower overhead than brick and mortar stores, they can offer discount commercial flooring prices.
