Pneumatic
flooring nailers are a great way to install
your hardwood or laminate
floors quickly
and precisely. Flooring
nailer allow you to
efficiently drive the "L" shaped cleats
necessary for hardwood flooring at the correct
angle every time. They also get ride
of the need to bring your hammer anywhere near
the hardwood floor, thus lessening the chance
that you will damage your new floor's finish.
When combined with an air compressor, pneumatic
floor nailers make up one of the most powerful
and useful tools you can find to get your hardwood
or laminate flooring project done on time every
time.
Understanding
the principle
Most
nailers look somewhat like an "A" turned
on its side, with a small knob sticking up. To
use a flooring nailer, you simply line up the
top of the "A" with the seam of the
flooring you need to nail. Using a rubber mallet,
you strike the exposed knob. This causes the
flooring nailer to shoot a nail into the surface
of the floor. They
are generally powerful enough to drive a nail
deep into a piece of the hardwood, even if you
are using the hardest hardwood. They
usually operate between 80 and 90 p.s.i., and
can be relied upon not to drive your nails too
deep into the wood. Most leave about 1/8 of an
inch, which is the exact depth you would be striving
for with your hammer and set punch!
Manual
flooring nailers are also available. These
flooring nailers look about the same as pneumatic
once, but they will require more effort on
your part. Instead of gently striking the upturned
knob you must apply vigorous pressure. The
principle behind the operation of both types
of machines remains the same however.
By keeping the hammer away from the flooring
and instead using precisely directed force, they
protect the flooring and lessen the chance
of accidental damage
