Installing garage flooring

 
   


Putting in garage flooring can make your garage a much more liveable place, whether you park your car there or just use your garage for storing seldom used items. There are a few different types of flooring, each with its own unique features and advantages. Installing discount garage hardwood flooring is usually a fairly simple process, depending on which product you choose. As durablility is a key issues for your floor make sure you choose a material that resist against high weights of machines, stationary tools or you garage workbench.Once your new garage floor is installed, you will find that your garage is a much more pleasant place to work, park in, or just visit to retrieve stored items.

Floor types for your garage

Garage flooring products can be divided into two categories. The first is products used to simply cover the floor. These can include durable rubber sheeting built to stand the test of time or textured surfacing that goes on like paint but acts as another layer of concrete on your garage floor. The second category is garage flooring paints and sealants.

Installing flooring properly

While some of the steps to installing garage flooring will vary by product, each requires a certain amount of surface preparations. To prepare your garage floor, clean up all old stains with the product of your choice. One popular choice is dry laundry detergent, which absorbs the oil and is then wetted to provide scrubbing action. You can also use varsol or thinners to lift the oil stain out of the concrete. You should also dry any wet spots and fill any cracks before installing. How to install garage flooring will vary by product. For paint and sealant garage flooring, and textured roll on garage flooring, once you have prepared the surface you roll on one or several coats of garage flooring, allowing a set period of time to pass between coats. It is important to keep your garage dry during this process. For barrier type flooring like installing linoleum floor, you should apply glue first and then lay your sheets, being careful to seal any seams.

Tools used for flooring your garage can include the following:

  • A floor sander

  • Buckets and sponges

  • Paint rollers with long handles

  • Broom and dustpan or shop vacuum

  • Utility knives or strong scissors
