Floor
cleaner can make all the difference in the
appearance of hardwood
floorings. Both good
and bad. Hardwood floor cleaners can only be
used on urethane-coated floors. Waxed floors
should not be subjected to the risk of damage
from most cleaners. Hardwood
cleaner work best on those floorings with
urethane finishes or that have surface
a finish. It is easy to learn how to use them.
Most cleaners simply spray on or may be wiped
on with a cloth or mop. They lift
stubborn spots, heel marks and sticky spills.
You simply apply them to the soiled area and
let them soak for a few minutes. Then wipe
them up, picking the dirt or grease with them.
Two
Basic Differences In Floor Finishes
There
are two basic differences in hardwood floor
finishes. There are surface finishes and interior
finishes. The surface finishes include varnish
and urethanes. The interior finishes are waxes
and oils that soak into the wood grain to seal
and protect. Each type of finish takes distinctly
different types of cleaners.
There
is an array of floor cleaning products, each
formulated for the specific type of finish
and also for specific tasks. For example, there
are cleaners for the quick removal of dirt
and spills. There are cleaners designed to
restore the lustre of the finish. There are
cleaners designed to remove difficult spots
and stains.
These
cleaning products should
only be used in accordance with manufacturer’s
instructions on waxed floors. Using them you
should avoid oil-based soaps. They cause an
oily build up and can create problems when
it comes time to refinish the floor. Choose
neutral pH cleaners that are made specifically
for hardwood floors.
Most
floor cleaning products help restore the beauty
of the parquet or floor as it removes dirt,
spots and stain. There are a few simple rules
that must be followed when using them. One
is to be sure and follow the manufacturer’s
directions. Another is to be sure and use the
cleaner designed for the particular finish
that has been applied to the wood. These rules
will help ensure that your floor is not damaged
or does not fail because of the hardwood floor
cleaner you chose.
