What
you need to know about installing vinyl
flooring
Installing
vinyl flooring can be a tedious project if
you have never done this work before. There
are a few tips that can help you when you
install vinyl flooring, so that you can have
prefect results. Installing vinyl flooring is
not hard to do once you get the hang of it.
Installing
vinyl flooring is a simple and inexpensive
way of putting floor covering over the wooden
subfloor especially if you use vinyl tiles. Vinyl
tiles can have a self adhesive backing that
you just peel off and lay in place. You can also
get vinyl tiles to which you have to apply the
adhesive using a trowel before you lay them on
the floor.
If
you are installing vinyl floor using tile,
you first have to determine how many tiles you
need. They are usually 12 X 12 and this requires
a simple calculation of multiplying the length
of the room by the width to get the area of the
room. You should add about 5% extra to the total
number of tiles in order to allow for spoilage,
especially if this is your first time installing
vinyl flooring.
Installing Vinyl Flooring
Vinyl flooring will show up any defects in the
subflooring, so you have to make sure that the
wood or old flooring is clean and free of any
dirt. You should divide the room into four quadrants
by snapping chalk lines between the center points
of the opposite walls. When installing vinyl
flooring using tiles, lay the tiles along the
first quadrant guidelines all the way to the
wall. If you are including a border, determine
how wide you want to have it and snap a guideline
to make sure that it is uniform all the way around.
Peel
the backing off and press them into position
one at a time, ensuring that they are in line
with the neighbouring tiles. If you have to apply
adhesive, lay the adhesive on a manageable number
and work with these first. Once
you have all the tiles laid in position, roll
them out to get rid of any excess adhesive.
When you have finished this room, you won’t
be so nervous about installing vinyl flooring.
