Oak
flooring is a form of hardwood flooring
and you can have it light or dark. Red oak has
been found to be the best grade of hardwood for
use in oak flooring projects. This grade of oak
has few knots and little variation in the colors
of the grains. Oak flooring is a prefect choice
for any room of your house.
Installing oak flooring
If
you are wondering how to install oak flooring,
it is done in the same manner as any hardwood
floor installation. Oak flooring is not laminate
flooring – it is pure wood, so it has to
be sanded and polished, but you can also purchase
pre finished oak flooring. When installing oak
flooring, the first thing you have to do is measure
the room to know how much of it you have to purchase.
It is best to purchase a bit more than the amount
you need, just in case you should make any mistakes.
The normal method for installing oak flooring
is to lay the boards perpendicular to the floor
joists. This enables you to nail the oak flooring
to the joist and help reduce any squeaking when
you later walk on the floor. When you come to
a doorway, you should try to run the boards through
the doorway into the other room. The bottom of
the door casing may have to be trimmed so as
the oak can fit snugly to the wall. You can nail
the planks in the tongue and groove part so they
are hidden when the oak flooring is complete.
If you have any doubts about how to install
oak flooring the staff at the dealership where
you made the purchase will be able to help you.
Most packaging also includes instructions that
are east to follow when installing oak flooring.
Oak flooring tools you will need
In order to install oak flooring you will need
to have certain tools. The most basic of these
oak flooring tools is a saw and a hammer. You
will need to do some cutting of the planks to
get them to fit around doorways, cupboards and
ductwork. You can use an air hammer to get the
job done faster, but you will certainly need
knee pads for all the crawling around you will
have to do.
It is not easy installing oak flooring, but
when you look at the effect you will, be glad
you chose oak as your choice of flooring.
