Wood flooring can transform your home

For many years wood flooring has been one of the hallmarks of elegance in the home. The durability and easy maintenance of wood flooring has long made it a favourite of home owners, and new products have made it possible for almost anyone to make wood floors a part of their home.

When treated well, wood flooring generally lasts much longer than other types of flooring. Most prefinished wood floors require little or no maintenance. Best of all, if your floor becomes scratched or suffers some other injury, you do not necessarily have to replace it as you would a cracked ceramic tile or ripped linoleum. Instead, in most cases you can refinish your wood floor with a little sand paper and the appropriate finish.

How to install wood flooring

While installing wood flooring was once only done by professional carpenters, today's flooring products and wood flooring installation tools make it possible for any do it yourselfer to learn how to install wood flooring. If you would like to learn how to install wood flooring, a great place to start is at your nearest hardware store.

Most hardware and flooring stores have knowledgeable staff that can help you get started on your wood flooring project. Larger retailers may even feature workshops on wood flooring installation, while others will give you free pamphlets which will take you through the installation process in step-by-step detail.

Installing wood flooring the easy way

Installing wood flooring does not have to be a difficult task, especially if you have taken the time to learn how to install wood flooring properly. You should also get the correct wood flooring installation tools for the type of flooring you will be installing.

One of the most useful tools for installing wood flooring is a floor nailer. These nailers can be either electric or pneumatic, and they can be calibrated to sink flooring nails to the precise depth you require. The advantage of using a power floor nailer is that you will not be striking the floor with your hammer; this lessens the chance that a missed hammer stroke will damage the finish of the wood flooring you are installing.

While wood flooring was rarely seen in homes built in the 1980s, it has enjoyed a comeback of sorts in recent years. New products, reduced costs, and improved ease of installation are the main reasons for the resurgence of wood flooring.
