Screwdrivers Overview

Screwdrivers Are Popular Assembly Tool

One of the most popular fasteners for wood, plastic, metal and composite materials is the screw. What the hammer is to nails, screwdrivers are for screws. These seemingly simple tools come in a wide array of sizes and blade designs. These popular tools are designed as hand tools, electric power tools and as pneumatic tools. Among them is the torx screwdriver, the flat blade and the torx screwdriver.

A torx screwdriver is a specialized tool that fits into the unique torx head screw. This tool is designed to provide a solid, non-slip fit that will not damage the head of the screw as well as providing additional torque when tightening or loosening the screw. This type of screw is very popular in the automotive industry.

Phillips Head Screwdriver Helps Prevent Screw Damage

Much more common is the Phillips screwdriver. The Phillips screwdriver is another tool designed to minimize the slip and screw head damage that can occur when the wrong size blade is used in a standard screw. The four pointed star design is also designed to provide additional tightening and loosening torque when compared to the flat blade screwdriver.

The Phillips head screwdriver comes in a wide variety of sizes. These include, for example, the short and stubby screwdrivers for reaching screws in tight fitting places. There are Phillips screwdrivers for almost every appliction imaginable, including hand screwdrivers and power screwdrivers. These tools come in sets that offer a selection of sizes.

Screwdrivers are absolutely indispensible tools in every tool box. Most building or assembling projects will involve screws and screwdrivers at some point. Perhaps the most important point to remember about these tools is to make sure and use the correct size screwdriver for the screw being tightened or loosened. Failure to do so will result in damage to the screw head and possibly to the screwdriver as well.
