The accuracy of a laser tape measure

The laser tape measure is one of the most useful laser tools to hit the building trade in the past few years. With a laser tape measure, the process of measuring distances is vastly simplified. Laser tape measures also provide better accuracy than standard tapes, because they use lasers to gauge the exact distance between two points.

Different types of laser measuring device

Because many tool manufacturers have embraced laser measuring device technology in the past few years do it yourselfers and contractors can choose from a wide variety of laser tape measures. The least expensive of these models simply use a laser to measure the distance between two points. No matter which manufacturer you choose, these laser tape measures are generally guaranteed to be accurate under ¼ of an inch over 100 feet.

More complex laser tape measures include a microprocessor that is instantly able to calculate amounts for you. This means that by simply recording the height, width, and depth of a room, for example, you can quickly calculate the volume of that room. You can also use these sophisticated laser tape measures to quickly calculate the square footage of a room or home, which is of course useful if you are planning to install new flooring.

Other advantages of a laser distance measuring device

A laser distance measuring device has many other advantages. One of the most impressive advantages of a laser measuring device is the fact that you will never have to worry about kinking your measuring tape again. You can also measure distances by yourself more easily, since you do not need an assistant to hold your tape in a specific spot; you simply point your laser at the far end of your measurement and wait for a reading on the screen of your laser tape measure.

Laser tape measures can also perform complex measurements such as roof and stair rake. Many laser tape measures can hold up to 28 values in memory at once, and can also be used as a pocket calculator. If you typically visit job sites to give estimates you can reduce the amount of paper and other accessories you need to carry simply by bringing along your laser tape measure.
