choosing hardwood plywood

Hardwood plywood offers affordable beauty

Using oak plywood in your projects

Using hardwood plywood in your projects is a great way to get the beauty of hardwood without having to pay the high prices of quality solid hardwood. Projects that will eventually see hard use, such as tables or chairs, may require hardwood, but many other projects can be completed with plywood made with one or more layers of hardwood veneer glued to a core made from less expensive materials. Examples of these projects may include bookcases or built in office fixtures. By using this plywood you can stretch your materials budget, and you may even be able to afford to purchase higher quality tools to equip your shop.

How plywood is made with hardwood veneer

Hardwood veneer is one of the latest and hottest selling wood products. Made from pieces of hardwood that have been cast off during the milling process, hardwood veneer has the same qualities as the wood it is made from except for one: price! What manufacturers of hardwood veneer plywood do is to buy this cheaper veneer and combine it with a core made from much cheaper materials like MDF or particleboard. The resulting product can be sold unfinished, leaving the woodworker to sand and apply stain, or as finished wood ready to be cut and assembled.

Oak plywood

One of the most attractive and sturdy plywoods made from hardwood veneer is oak plywood. This is because oak veneer incorporates all of the good qualities of oak lumber, such as limited warping, excellent durability, and the ability to hold stain and varnishes for much longer than other woods. If you are looking for a wood that will stand up to some abuse but will still cost less than hardwood, oak plywood is a great choice.

Plywood white oak finish

A great choice for your furniture projects is plywood with a white oak finish. When you select plywood white oak you get a plywood that has a durable finish that is also a gorgeous honey brown colour. Perhaps the best aspect of white oak plywood is that it has the warmest feel of almost all hardwoods, providing rich accents that brighten rather than darken your rooms unlike any other hardwood plywood.
