understanding lumber prices

High lumber prices affect the lumber industry

Lumber prices will vary depending on where you purchase your lumber and wood materials. If you buy from a smaller mill rather than a lumberyard you may be able to save yourself up to 50 percent. Every step of the lumber process will add to the value of the wood product. If you bypass a retailer and buy directly from the manufacturer you will be able to cash in on those savings. And when it comes to lumber you want to save every penny that you can, when you can.

Lumber supply

Lumber supply will fluctuate depending on the time of year and what type of lumber you are buying. If you are planning a project that requires a certain type of wood, such as rosewood or oak, you will want to inquire well ahead of time as to whether or not the wood will be available when you are ready to purchase it. If you don’t keep an eye on the lumber supply and lumber prices you may be disappointed and either have to choose an alternate wood or wait until the wood of your choice is back in supply.

Exotic lumber

Exotic lumber is a great way to make a wood project stand out from the others. Look for a supplier with good lumber prices that deals with exotic lumber. Your specialty lumber needs can be met, but you may have to take the time to look for a lumberyard or supplier that carries the exotic lumber that you are looking for. Keep in mind that lumber prices for exotic lumber can be way out of your budget, but don’t let this keep you from planning your next project around exotic lumber. Most exotic lumber is imported from around the world and will be sold at random widths and lengths. You may have to adjust your project requirements to match the supply of exotic lumber in your area. Some examples of exotic wood include Sapele, Rosewood, Pau Almarillo, Bocote, and Bloodwood.

Lumber prices are something that you should keep an eye on and compare from supplier to supplier before making your final purchase. By buying directly from the manufacturer you will be saving money since you are bypassing the lumber retailer and getting the best lumber prices.
