Buying a plywood chair

A plywood chair can make a very comfortable seat. It looks and feels just like wood, and can be an attractive addition to any home, as can other plywood furniture. Plywood can be quite strong, as it is built using more than one wooden panel. When laid with its greatest thickness, about one and one-eighth inches, it can act as a thin piece of wood for woodworking projects, such as making plywood cabinets.

High grade plywood functions as a regular piece of wood. It is formed by laying panels of wood on top of each other, then applying pressure under conditions of extreme heat. This forces the panels to adhere to each other, creating a piece of wood that can be cut, shaped and combined with other pieces to make things like plywood furniture and plywood cabinets. These woodworking projects can be inexpensive as well as satisfying to make.

Different pieces of plywood furniture

While a plywood chair can be very comfortable, there are other pieces of furniture that can be made using plywood as well. Coffee and kitchen tables, as well as entertainment centers for TVs and audio/visual equipment can also be constructed using plywood. Many attractive book cases are built with plywood. This furniture comes in many price ranges. Some are very inexpensive and can be purchased at department stores, sometimes for under $100. At the same time, there is high end plywood furniture as well. Some of it, especially items made from Finnish plywood (finply), can be very spendy, topping one or two thousand dollars. Finply is very high grade, and is often combined with a softer metal, like aluminium, to create a more modern and aesthetically pleasing look.

Plywood cabinets make great woodworking projects. Like regular wood, it can be carved and tooled to look beautiful. They are also sturdy and can hold dishes, in addition to looking nice. Form and function can be combined in objects made from plywood.

Plywood is a very versatile material, allowing for many uses and various projects. There are few wood products that cannot be made using plywood—whether it is a bookshelf or a plywood chair.
