Different types of forestry tools

Forestry is an industry that continues to boom in areas of North America where there are forests that allow cutting. The cutting of trees is well controlled and allows ample opportunity for re-growth. Forests supply North America with a great deal of revenue each year, as well as keep thousands of people employed. Since this is such a specialized industry you’ll find that you need to have some training before you can just walk into any job position.

Forestry tools

There are many different types of forestry tools that you can use to make your job in the forest easier and safer. One tool that you’ll definitely need to have is a pair of lifting tongs. Tongs are indispensable when it comes to helping you lift large logs and pieces of lumber. Another tool that you most likely will use is the pike pole. These poles are great for moving around large or small pieces of wood without too much lifting and straining on your part. Other tools that you may use to do your job faster and more efficiently include cant hooks, draw shaves, log jacks, timber carriers, skidding tongs, peavies, and hookaroons. Always remember that you need to wear safety equipment when using any type of tools or machinery, particularly when working with large trees. Safety equipment includes a safety helmet, safety glasses, and steel toed boots.

Forestry machines

If you’re working for a large company you’ll most likely be required to use larger machines so that you can tackle the large job of felling trees. Some of the larger machines that you might need to learn to use are a chipper, a loader, and a trailer. Once you learn how to operate as many machines as possible you’ll be able to work in any field of this industry. The more you know about operating larger pieces of equipment the more versatile you’ll be to any company that hires you. Working for a lumber company is a great career that will never get boring.

One thing that you should keep in mind is that if you’re looking for an exciting career in the outdoors the perfect choice for you just may be forestry.
