Metal Polishing Prepares Project For Finish

Metal finishing is the final step. Once the project has been planned, milled, drilled, sawn, welded and all of the other process that go into a metalwork project, the piece has taken form and is ready to function. The final step is to prepare the metal for the finishing process and apply the finish material. For wood, this would be paint. For metal it may be paint, or it may be anodizing, powder coating or some other process that will protect the metal against corrosion or rust and give it a ‘finished’ look.

There are any number of metal polishing wheels to remove excess metal, deburr seams, holes and edges and to prepare the metal surface to accept the finish coat material. These polishing wheels include inflatable rubber wheels used to hold abrasive pads and flap sanders. Polishing wheels are coated with an abrasive material that removes the oxidation and pitting from metal.

Metal Finishing Supplies Available Online

Metal finishing supplies include the finishing wheels, the abrasives, coatings, sandpapers and pads used by the polishers and sanding machines. These supplies are readily available at industrial supply centers and online at one of the many metal finishing websites.

The dewalt polisher is a high-speed commercial use machine for polishing and light sanding. This is an excellent machine for detail work, polishing and buffing. The dewalt polisher is found in large home improvement centers and through e-stores and websites offering metalworking and metal finishing tools and equipment.

Metal finishing makes the job complete. It protects the metalworking project and contributes to the overall appearance. The final project step is metal finishing.
