The mitre
saw was once considered to be a saw
with a rectangular blade that was guided by
grooves cut into the sides of a box. Making
mitre cuts was basically a hand operation.
Then the radial
arm saw was invented in the
1920s and it became possible to make some mitre
cuts with this power tool. The hand saw was
of course, portable and could be taken to job
sites. The radial arm saw, being much less
portable, was kept in the workshop. The job
site and workshop were both changed in the
1980s. The mitre saw or chop saw was introduced
and mitre boxes disappeared almost overnight.
The
miter saw is used and used extensively both
in the shop and on job sites because it is
so convenient. In many instances it is easier
to set up the mitre saw and use it for many
cuts than it is to use a hand held power saw.
All of that use has a downside. Sawdust. Fortunately
there is a mitre saw dust collection system included
with each saw.
Dewalt
Miter Saws Are Offered In Several Models
Dewalt
offers five different dewalt miter saws.
There is on model with an 8-1/2 inch blade,
two models with 10 inch blades and two with
12 inch blades. All five models are compound
miter saws.
In the Delta Machinery line up there are several
delta miter saws. These saws have 10 inch and
12 inch blades. The selection includes both miter
saws and compound miter saws.
When
you get tired of dragging a power cord around
behind a hand held saw, or changing batteries
that won’t hold their charge, it is time
to set up a mitre saw. If you want a convenient
to use, relatively portable and easy to set up
saw that is extremely versatile, then you are
wanting a mitre saw.
