Router bits are specialized cutting tools used for shaping edges or the edges of holes in wood. These tools can put bevels on doors, curved edges and many other shapes. They can also cut routs into flat pieces of wood. Router bits come in many shapes and sizes, each designed to make a certain kind of shaped edge.

Cmt router bits are made and distributed by CMT Orange Tools. The company was started in 1964 as a small tool maker in Pesaro, Italy. It is now a world leader of high quality wood router bits. The company also has a unique trademark for its bits – the orange color. It is the only company which colors router bits orange.

Freud router bits are among the products in the Freud line of top quality tools. The company was started more than 50 years ago and currently operates six manufacturing facilities in Western Europe.

Router bits are either high speed steel, carbide or carbide tipped. High speed steel are less expensive for the initial purchase, but the high speed steel bits do not last as long as the carbide or carbide tipped bits. The purchase price must be balanced against the expected life of the bit to determine the true cost of router bits.
