How to use abrasives properly

Abrasives are materials used in operations that require grinding, polishing, lapping, honing, pressure blasting or another similar process. Abrasives are available in different particle or grit sizes depending on how much material has to be removed. The materials used as abrasives are characterized by high hardness and moderate to high fracture toughness.

Each abrasive acts like a cutting tool. When high volumes of material need to be removed the grit of the abrasive is coarser than when only a small amount is to be removed. 3m sandpaper produce precision finishes to products faster and more efficiently than traditional ones. They have a variety of minerals, backings and attachments that you can get as discs, rolls, sheets and belts for a belt sander to suit whatever polishing or finishing operation you choose. 3m abrasives can help you eliminate defects and achieve the desired result and are available for both wet and dry sanding operations.

Even though sandpaper is an abrasive, many jobs require sanding discs called abrasives to do the job a lot easier and faster. United abrasives carry wider and more aggressive abrasives that you can use to work on contours, threads and rivets. An abrasive brush is available that doesn’t throw metal wires and can be used without harsh chemicals. When using abrasives for grinding, sanding or other finishing methods, you should wear safety goggles as small particles tend to hop away from the work. Goggles protect you from being injured when you use abrasives.
