Belt sander overview

Belt sander and its importance

How effective is belt sander?

Belt sander is an intermediary and hence an important step of the finishing process. It sands the wood roughly but to get the smooth and silky finish it still needs the palm grip or orbital. Basically, the main purpose of the belt sander is to remove or chop up the chunks of extra wood for the purpose of sanding and smoothing the wood. There is no one standard size of belt sanders they have to be purchased keeping in mind the various available sizes in the market. The following points are to be pondered over before purchasing the belt sander:

Lots of sawdust gets produced during sanding so it is better to buy the belt sander that comes along with dust collection bag. To have an accurate control over the process it is better to purchase the belt sander with an option of variable speed. Make sure the belt sander can be clamped to your workbench to sand smaller pieces the hand held way.

Paradoxical to the earlier limited means like sharkskin for wood sanding, presently dozens of innovative abrasives are available that besides wood sanding perform many other woodworking operations. Wood sanding is routinely used by woodworkers through abrasives to shape wood parts, clean up rough turnings, to get precise dimension, polish a new one and more.

Width of the sanding belt and diameter of the sanding disc have crucial role in the identification of belt sanders. It should never be too tight. The kind of sanding paper for the belt depends on what material you want to grind. Different paper types are available to sand wood, plastics or metal.

It is true that most power tools are hazardous but if used properly care can be taken, so the case applies with belt sanders.
