Sanding belts are a great way to save yourself
time; it is a great alternative over hand sanding
your projects, especially if you intend to do
a lot of sanding. There are various types and
brands, depending on the features and functionality
you are looking for. Sanding belts could be one
of the most useful pieces of equipment you can
purchase for your shop or business. Some of the
different types you can find are a belt sander,
a drum sander, and accessories include a grid.
Uses of a Belt Sander and a Drum Sander
Belt
sanders and drum
sanders do
essentially the same thing, sand wood. However
drum sanders until recently were very bulky,
heavy, and far too expensive to be used in
someone’ home
shop. Belt sanders come in portable models
as well, which makes them very convenient and
easy to use. The new drum sanders are still
a little pricey, but work great for larger
pieces or wood. Unless you plan on doing a
great deal of sanding you may want to try out
a belt sander first.
If
you’re working on a project that requires
a grid or grid sander you can either make the
purchase yourself or you may want to ask other
woodworkers that you know if they have the tool
so that you can borrow it. Belts are one item
that you’ll want to buy yourself so that
even if you borrow the sander from someone else
you’re not using their belts for your projects.
This is because belts are easily damaged and
you’ll want to return the sander in the
same condition as you borrowed it.
Since
tools are so expensive you may want to consider
the option of buying a used sander and buying
the belts new to match the sander. This is
a great way to save yourself some money that
you can use for another part of the project that
you’re working on. Another way to get the
tools that you want is to buy reconditioned tools.
You won’t, however, want to save money
when it comes to buying sanding belts.
