Wood turnings Explored

Wood turnings is an industry of its own. There are companies and hobbyists who produce custom wood turnings for other people. These may include such things as ballusters, porch posts, columns and other basic building decorations. They may also include such ornamental items to include boxes, wooden perfume bottles and other specialty pieces.

Some artisans have also become proficient at segmented wood turning. Segmented wood turning is creating pieces that fit together as one unit or piece. Common examples of segmented wood turning include bowls with fitted lids or covers, vases and other intricate decorative pieces.

The turning radius of the piece being turned is a critical measurement in many cases. Special devices have been made to fit on the lathe to control the amount of wood shaved off to ensure the piece maintains the proper radius.
