Various woodturnings can make a beautiful addition to your home and a fun project in your spare time. If you are looking for woodturning project ideas your local bookstore should have several woodturning books available. You could also do a search on the Internet for woodturning ideas, but if you are looking for step-by-step projects you probably will not find these for free.

Ideas Galore: A Woodturning Magazine

A good way to stay on top of the trends of different woodturnings is by subscribing to a woodturning magazine. These magazines often come out quarterly, although some more frequently. A woodturning magazine is a great way to get ideas for projects, and many of them give a new step-by-step project each issue. This is a great way to try something new and have guidance throughout the process. If you are looking to subscribe a woodturning magazine you can search for them online. There are also several online woodturning magazines, which can be very helpful as well.

Turning Bowls: A Fun Project

One of the most popular types of woodturnings is turning bowls. Turning bowls is relatively easy but there are several different techniques that you can employ. It is a good idea to research these types of projects a little bit before attempting to do any type of bowl woodturning. Another good project, especially if you are starting is candlestick turning. You may remember doing this in shop class; it is a good introduction to woodturning. Making candlesticks can be fairly easy and a fun first project. Yet another great type of woodturning projects is woodturning boxes. This is actually can be a very difficult variation on woodturnings. These woodturning boxes are typically slightly rounded but getting the diameter of box that you want can be hard when you first start. As with any woodturnings, practice makes perfect. Do not expect your first few woodturning projects to turn out like they look in the picture. Do not get discouraged though, you can only get better through practice.
