As trades become more and more popular, woodworking schools are seeing a rise attendance. Woodworking schools teach a variety of different woodworking courses. This includes everything from drafting to finishing. Woodworking schools are a wonderful place to learn all about woodworking. Whether you’re a weekend handy person who wants to hone their cabinetry skills, or ready to embark on a new career, woodworking schools could be for you.

If you are beginning woodworking, either as a career or as a hobby, woodworking schools are and excellent place to start. Many people buy books are look for “do-it-yourself” tips on the Internet. While these are great if you already have a basic understanding of woodworking, if you are beginning woodworking it can all seem confusing and overwhelming. There is really no substitute for hands-on experience. A teacher can show you things that a book just has no way of explaining. Many woodworking schools offer a quick woodworking camp, or boot camp as many call it. These woodworking camps usually occur over the summer months, and it basically is a lot of information packed into a fairly short period of time. Woodworking camps can be very intensive and you must be prepared to spend a better part of your day woodworking.

Woodworking Courses

You may be wondering what kind of woodworking courses is offered. Some of the courses you can expect to take include reading shop drawings, drafting shop drawings, layout, measuring, joinery, machining, jigs and templates, assembly, and finishing. Each of the woodworking courses is usually fairly labour intensive and you will learn a great deal in a short period of time. You can usually take all of the courses together as a diploma program of some sort, or you can take the classes individually if you feel you only need to brush up on certain aspects of woodworking. Either way woodworking school is a great way to learn something new, or refresh your current skill base.
